IchorCoal has appointed new head of Vunene Mining
- Jonathan Collins takes over responsibility in July
- Broad experience in the Mining Industry
- Former head of Mining Bertus Venter will remain connected as consultant
Berlin, 22 July 2013: IchorCoal N.V., an internationally operating mineral
resource company, has appointed Jonathan Collins as the new General Manager
of Vunene Mining (Pty) Ltd. He is following Bertus Venter who has been
responsible for Vunene's Usutu Colliery since 2006. He will stay with
Vunene Mining as a consultant. Vunene Mining is IchorCoal's most important
asset and will produce up to 400.000 tons of steam coal per month by the
end of the year.
Jonathan Collins, the new General Manager, looks back on 25 years of mining
experience. He began at Vunene Mining on 1 May and is taking over
responsibility in July. Before joining Vunene Mining and IchorCoal he was
working amongst others with Homeland Mining&Energy, Arcelor Mittal
Liberia, Total Coal and XStrata Coal where he held various posts as Mine
Manager. Jonathan Collins has a Bachelor of Science and a Postgraduate
Diploma in Mining Engineering, a Graduate Diploma in Engineering and a
Diploma in Project Engineering.
IchorCoal aquired 74 percent ownership of the Vunene Mine in 2012. The
Usutu Colliery is located approximately 200 km southeast of Johannesburg in
the Ermelo region. In the '70s and '80s Usutu Colliery was the largest
single producer of coal in South Africa with a monthly production of around
450,000 tons. Until the end of the year 4 new blocks of opencast mining
will be taken under production and the monthly output will grow up to
400.000 tons of steam coal. In 2015 the underground mining will restart and
replace the opencast mining blocks.
