Entone Integrates LG 'Netcast' Platform
Hybrid Media Gateway for MPVDs to Deliver OTT and Linear TV
(firmenpresse) - CUPERTINO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/24/13 -- Entone, Inc., a leading provider of Hybrid TV and Connected Home solutions, announced today the integration of LG Electronics' Netcast media streaming platform with Entone's hybrid media gateway. The combined solution is designed to deliver linear TV and over-the-top (OTT) online TV services to Internet-connected consumer electronics devices without the need for a traditional set-top box.
Entone has teamed up with global technology leader LG to develop a streaming player application specifically targeting subscribers of broadband service providers, selected cable operators and other MVPDs. The first LG Netcast-enabled device supported by Entone will be the LG SP530 Media Player. The SP530 supports leading OTT video services such as Netflix, VUDU, Hulu and YouTube.

The LG SP530 can operate on a standalone basis over any Internet connection. When integrated with Entone's FusionTV® application and Magi® hybrid media gateway, the media player is enriched with the support of live TV, whether delivered over-the-air (OTA) or through an authenticated PayTV service.
According to Paul Erickson, senior consumer, media and communications analyst at IHS, "Entone's integration with LG's Netcast platform is in line with the industry's interest in utilizing connected consumer electronics devices as gateway clients. As interest in media gateways increases, so too will the appeal of being able to use connected CE devices already in the home versus the cost and effort of installing a traditional set-top box."
The proven LG Netcast software platform, employed in millions of LG Smart TVs and STBs around the world, enables seamless instant access to streaming media services such as online movies and Internet radio.
