Student Awards Open Doors for Future Careers
Four Students Awarded with Student Communicator of the Year Awards

("IABC/BC") proudly awarded four outstanding students with Student Communicator of the Year (SCOY) Awards, IABC/BC's .
"The SCOY Awards program recognizes and showcases some of the best across the province," shares Stephanie Hun, Vice President, Student Services for IABC/BC.
"We are pleased to see the diversity and quality of these competitive submissions from different fields of study," says Ms. Hun, who explains that the awards program encourages submissions from students of communication, public relations, business, journalism, graphic design, marketing, advertising and other fields. The award exists to drive awareness and recognition of young students who are steadily building their career in communications.
"This acknowledgement opens doors for me out of Brazil," says Glauce Fleury, winner of an Excellence Award for a manual for international students that she co-wrote and designed for Douglas College. Ms. Fleury, an international student who came to Canada from Brazil to study professional writing adds, "My studies here have prepared me for a career as a writer in the English language and this award increases my confidence. I feel I can expand my writing career beyond the Portuguese language."
Winners shared that the awards program was a key component to their professional development.
Alexandra Lowe of Simon Fraser University (SFU), who won an Excellence Award in electronic and digital communication for rebranding one of SFU's electronic newsletters says, "By creating a work plan, I really discovered what aspects make a good project."
Andrea Sanchez of SFU, winner of a Merit Award for a media outreach plan also notes that the awards program emphasized the importance of "writing concisely and informatively, being thoughtful about the process, and preparing measurable objectives to evaluate success."
Each year, IABC/BC welcomes submissions from . Each entry is judged independently of other submissions by a panel of senior IABC/BC members, who evaluate the student's submission using a standard set of criteria, to maintain a standard from year to year.
"Submissions that stand out are those that demonstrate critical thinking and tactical skills in identifying a communication need, creating and implementing a solution, and assessing results," shares Ms. Hun.
