Minister Oliver Appoints New Director to the Board of Directors of Atomic Energy Canada Limited
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 07/31/13 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today announced the appointment of James Hall to the Board of Directors of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL).
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Hall as a new Director of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited," said Minister Oliver. "Mr. Hall's leadership in a wide range of sectors gives him the expertise in human resources, corporate governance and financial management that will be of great value in AECL's Nuclear Laboratories transition to a government-owned, contractor-operated model."
Mr. Hall has been a member of the Board of Directors of Indigo Books & Music Inc. for 14 years. He chairs its Human Resources and Compensation Committee and is a member of the Audit and Corporate Governance Committees. He is also on the Board of Directors of Immunovaccine Inc., a clinical stage vaccine development company, and serves on its Finance and Audit (Chair) Committees.
This appointment, which is effective August 1, 2013, follows the February 28, 2013, announcement of the second phase of AECL restructuring that will launch a competitive procurement process for private sector management and operation of the AECL Laboratories. The new model for the Laboratories will bring private sector rigour and efficiencies to their management with the goal of creating commercial opportunity and reducing the financial cost and risk for Canadian taxpayers.
AECL is Canada's premier nuclear science and technology organization whose goal is to ensure that Canadians and the world receive energy, health, environmental and economic benefits from nuclear science and technology with the confidence that nuclear safety and security are assured.
