Children Celebrate Their Grandparents on Verde Canyon Railroad

(firmenpresse) - CLARKDALE, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 07/31/13 -- Each spring time, Verde Canyon Railroad sends entry forms for the trains annual Essay and Drawing Contest to elementary schools throughout Arizona. Over the summer months the entries flood back into the depot, each child espousing in words and art the special things that make their grandparents so wonderful. From the avalanche of submissions arriving from throughout the state, this year's winners were chosen from a variety of grades and geographical locations for a first-class train ride with their "Nonny" and "Pop pop" on Grandparent's Day, Sunday, September 8th.
Mentor, veteran, caregiver, adventurer. Fishing buddy, gardener, crafts person, chef. Grandparents cover many bases and fill many roles in the lives of their grandchildren. For some children, their grandparents provide all of the traditional care and comfort their own parents are occasionally unable to give due to this hectic modern world and the constraints of time and work.
This year's essay winners were both heartwarming and hilarious, touching all who enjoyed reading the entries. Excerpts show the great knack for writing Arizona's school children are developing.
