(firmenpresse) - DENVER, CO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/07/13 -- The Denver Public Library is launching a new service called "DPL CONNECT," a book bike complete with shelves, display areas and a wi-fi hot spot. The goal of the tricked-out trike is to bring library services out to the community and promote upcoming programs and events. Throughout the summer and early fall, DPL CONNECT will be connecting with the public at festivals, farmer's markets and parks.

The inaugural ride will be on Wednesday, Aug 7, 2013 landing at the 16th Street Mall Garden Block (btw Curtis and Champa) at 4:30 p.m. The following day, DPL CONNECT can be found amongst the food trucks at Civic Center Eats.

The pedal-powered mobile library will provide free wireless internet access and will be stocked with a rotating collection of books tailored to the bike's location (i.e. cookbooks and urban farming for farmer's markets, bike repair and Denver maps for bike trails, etc). The librarian riding DPL CONNECT, armed with a tablet and an internet connection, will provide traditional services, helping customers with digital downloads (eBooks, audio books, digital magazines), offering reading suggestions (personalized reading lists), assisting with research and registering new customers for library cards.

"We foresee DPL CONNECT becoming a full-service library down the road," says Zac Laugheed, one of the original designers of the project. "We are currently working on the technology behind being able to check out books from the trike, in the meantime we'll be giving away books that we hope people will then share with others."
