Brilon, August 13, 2013: The second quarter of 2013 saw CENTROTEC
Sustainable AG, Brilon, increase its revenue by 0.2 % to EUR 123.3 million
(previous year EUR 123.0 million). On the other hand revenue for the
complete first half of 2013 was 4.4 % down on the previous year's record
level (EUR 246.7 million) due to the exceptionally long winter, with cold
weather extending into April, and also because of the continuing weak state
of its principal international markets. In the weather-dependent core
segments Climate Systems (-4.6 % to EUR 169.2 million / previous year EUR
177.3 million) and Gas Flue Systems (-8.0 % to EUR 45.4 million / previous
year EUR 49.4 million) revenue for the first half was down, but both
segments were already seeing renewed year-on-year growth especially towards
the end of the second quarter. The Medical Technology&Engineering
Plastics segment, where business is not exposed to weather-related
fluctuations, achieved revenue growth of 6.0 % to EUR 21.3 million in the
first half of 2013 (previous year EUR 20.1 million).
The operating result for the first half, which is less relevant in view of
the seasonal nature of core business, already matched the prior-year level
in the second quarter of 2013. Looking at the performance over the first
half of the year, EBITDA nevertheless remained 15.1 % down on the 2012
figure (EUR 19.3 million) despite another improvement in the purchased
materials ratio, and EBIT was equally 23.2 % below the previous year at EUR
6.9 million (EUR 9.0 million). However thanks to the substantial
improvement in the interest and investment result, earnings before tax
(EBT) were increased by almost two-thirds to EUR 5.1 million (previous year
EUR 3.1 million). Earnings after tax came to EUR 2.9 million, in a
turnaround from the negative amount of EUR -0.1 million in the previous
year. This led to comfortably positive earnings per share (EPS) of EUR 0.18
(previous year EUR +0.02).
Bearing in mind that core business traditionally picks up momentum in the
third and fourth quarters due to seasonal factors, CENTROTEC will again
earn the bulk of its profit for 2013 in the second half of the year. In
light of this, CENTROTEC expects to see revenue growth at group level for
2013 as a whole, in conjunction with a further rise in operating profit.
