California's Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act Nears Completion
The Nation's First Open-Source, Grassroots Legislation Is Accepting Input Until August 30, 2013
(firmenpresse) - SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/15/13 -- The Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act, intended for California's ballot in November 2014, is nearing completion. This is the first State Initiative created as an open-source, grassroots project by thousands of people contributing to the language via an open Google document.
The initiative intends to bring unity and support for legalization, combining valuable content and lessons learned from previous legislative attempts. The Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act seeks to:
Clarify medical marijuana laws
Protect children
Strengthen DUI laws
Protect patients' rights
Legalize social use of cannabis
Legalize hemp farming
Create jobs
Release prisoners
Save millions of taxpayer dollars
"We started by soliciting input from roughly 1,000 members of the SaveCannabis.org forum," said Dave Hodges, founder of the forum and of All American Cannabis Collective (A2C2) in San Jose, CA. "In addition to open meetings in San Jose and regular reports to the SaveCannabis.org forum, we created a Google document that literally anyone can see and contribute to. At each event, we requested specific input, and dozens of key advocates and legal advisers around the state provided recommendations and expertise."
"The open-source concept was created to institute new ideas and involve the community in the creation of the act," said Hodges. "As a result of the extensive input and recommendations from hundreds of advocates throughout the state, The Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act is nearing completion."
The document, located at , is open for additional comments and ideas until August 30, 2013.
The Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act was created by Californians for Marijuana Legalization and Control, a campaign committee project of Americans for Policy Reform (AFPR).
