Industry Training Authority Announces New Apprenticeship Advisors

Apprenticeship Advisors to be Located Regionally across British Columbia

(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/29/13 -- The (ITA) today announced additional support to improve apprenticeship continuation and completion rates through the introduction of Apprenticeship Advisors. The addition of Apprenticeship Advisors is based upon input from province wide consultation and the , and delivers on the premier's announcement in the .

This announcement follows the released in June 2013 that recommended introducing regional supports (previously referred to as coaches) to help improve apprenticeship continuation and completion rates.

"We heard from both apprentices and sponsors that there is a need for additional support," said Gary Herman, ITA's Interim CEO. "Apprenticeship Advisors will be located regionally and act as the senior points of contact for apprentices and sponsors."

An Apprenticeship Advisor Manager will be hired in fall 2013 reporting to ITA's Director of Customer Support and based in ITA's office. Apprenticeship Advisors will be added in 2013-14 and located regionally across B.C.

"Making sure British Columbians get the skills they need today to seize the opportunities of tomorrow is the top priority for the BC Skills and Training Plan," said Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour. "The Apprentice Advisors deliver on one of government's key commitments in the BC Skills and Training Plan and will help British Columbians get the skills they need to get to the front of line for jobs now and in the future."
