United States Congressmen Lamar Smith and Michael McCaul to Lead Cybersecurity Discussion Hosted by the Austin Technology Council

The ATC Chairmen's Forum Is Designed to Unite Central Texas' Business, Technology and Political Leaders


(firmenpresse) - AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 09/03/13 -- The Austin Technology Council (ATC) today announced that Central Texas U.S. Congressmen Lamar Smith (R-TX 21), Chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and Michael McCaul (R-TX 10), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, will participate in the ATC Chairmen's Forum on Cybersecurity on September 5.

These members of Congress hold jurisdiction and oversight over many facets of the direction of U.S. and global technology interests and are positioned to champion Texas technology and U.S. leadership in developing a secure and innovative tech sector.

Cybersecurity is of paramount importance to emerging and established tech, governments and consumers worldwide. Network security impacts the success and failure of innovators and diplomats and the paths of researchers and scientific discovery.

The Chairmen will be joined on stage by cybersecurity experts Admiral Bobby R. Inman, Lyndon B. Johnson Centennial Chair in National Policy at the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs and Dr. Fred Chang, newly appointed Bobby B. Lyle Endowed Centennial Distinguished Chair in Cyber Security at SMU's Lyle School of Engineering.

During the Chairmen's Forum, ATC will also announce Alan Schoenbaum, general counsel at Rackspace, as founding chair of the ATC Stakeholder Advisory Council. The council will serve as an advocacy voice in support of the ATC Board's mission to strengthen and promote the technology industry in the Central Texas region.

"We understand that upcoming public policy initiatives and legislative action will be critical to our future success. The Chairman's Forum takes place from 8 - 10 am at the AT&T Conference Center on Thursday, September 5. It is open to the public. .
