MGAC Project Wins UK and International Restaurant & Bar Design Award
(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwired) -- 09/18/13 -- celebrated restaurant and bar -- one of MGAC's most notable hospitality projects of 2012 -- received additional accolades as a winner in the coveted , held last week at London's Farmiloe Building. The awards program receives entries from the world's leading architects, designers and hospitality operators, and W Seattle was one of only two winners from the United States.
The striking renovation, designed by Skylab Architecture, celebrates several of the influences that have shaped Seattle's culture over the years, including its rich Native American heritage, the aviation industry and the city's legendary music scene. The inviting, open design Living Room and bar intermixes an inventive collaboration of design elements including 20-foot-tall totem poles and unique wallpaper featuring album cover spines, as well as a spectacular four-story fireplace, covered by nearly 1,000 stainless steel tiles. The adjoining restaurant Trace features a dynamic mural that alternates between two cultural references -- a jellyfish for the city's water-bound locale and an F-18 bomber, a nod to the home of Boeing. Trace has received its own share of recognition from the food and hospitality industries. Food & Wine magazine recently named Trace as one of the country's Best Hotel Restaurants.
MGAC served as the Owner's Representative on the project for the hotel management company, Host Hotels & Resorts. Construction management was provided by Abbott Construction. The elaborate new restaurant, bar and lobby area were completed in just twelve weeks, while W Seattle was fully operational.
