Plastic cone plate saves weights and cuts maintenance costs

(PresseBox) - ContiTech presents solutions for the commercial vehicle replacement market at the Automechanika Middle East in the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The technology corporation is showcasing its products from June 7 to 9, 2011, in an area of 200 square meters in the German pavilion together with the Continental brands ATE and VDO. One highlight is the modified air suspension system for the Mercedes Actros, which also became available for the independent replacement market this year.
"With this air suspension system, we are in tune with the times: We add new products introduced, or in this case optimized, by an OEM quickly to our replacement market portfolio," says Dirk Hoffmeister, head of the Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket segment at ContiTech Air Spring Systems. The air suspension system has a plastic cone plate vulcanized into it instead of a conventional plate made of steel. The weight savings translate to a higher payload for the fleet operator and helps reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the plastic cone plate cannot corrode, which cuts maintenance costs.
ContiTech has been active in the UAE since 2004. The aftermarket in Africa and the Middle East is developing rapidly: "The Automechanika Middle East is the leading event for this market and gives us the opportunity to present our expertise in the replacement market," says Hoffmeister.
