FSIN Delegation to Mark 250th Anniversary of the Royal Proclamation of 1763 in London

(firmenpresse) - SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwired) -- 09/23/13 -- The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) is bringing World War II Veterans, Elders and Traditional Ceremonial Helpers to London, England, to participate in activities marking the 250th Anniversary of the Royal Proclamation of 1763. The delegation will be in London from October 4th to the 8th.

"Our goal is to highlight the continuing existence and importance of the Royal Proclamation of 1763. We want to promote awareness and a common understanding of relations between First Nations and the Crown among all who are interested. We want to talk about those relations globally," said Perry Bellegarde, Chief of the FSIN, who will be leading the delegation. "The Royal Proclamation is important to us because it marks the first time that the Crown recognized our title to and jurisdiction over lands and territories as Indigenous peoples," concluded Chief Bellegarde.

All governments must recognize that the Honour of the Crown must be upheld in all of its relations with Indigenous peoples, whether it is the Crown in right of Great Britain or the Crown in right of Canada.

The FSIN represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. The Federation is committed to honouring the spirit and intent of Treaty, as well as the promotion, protection and implementation of the Treaty promises that were made more than a century ago.
