Based on a HealthPartners JAMA Study, Presenters Are the Lead Researcher and a Clinical Pharmacist From HealthPartners

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 10/01/13 -- A entitled, "Learn How Telemonitoring Helped Patients Achieve Better Blood Pressure Control," will describe how pharmacists using AMC Health telemonitoring can help patients achieve significantly better blood pressure control than traditional office-based physician care. HealthPartners of Minnesota presenters will expand upon a study, , published in the July 3, 2013, issue of the (JAMA).
Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, from 2 pm to 3 pm ET
Karen Margolis, M.D., M.P.H., director of clinical research, HealthPartners Institute for Education and Research who was the JAMA study's lead researcher and Sarah Groen, clinical pharmacist with HealthPartners Medication Therapy Management Program, will demonstrate how the use of telemonitoring plus pharmacist management significantly lowers patients' blood pressure over a prolonged period of time.
About half of the 450 patients enrolled in the study monitored their blood pressure at home at least six times a week. Their readings were automatically transmitted to pharmacists who provided lifestyle advice and adjusted medications to achieve better blood pressure control. The other half were assigned to the control group that received treatment from their regular physicians.
When the 12-month program ended, 71.2 percent of the telemonitoring patients had their blood pressure under control, compared to only 52.8 percent of the control group. Six months later, 71.8 percent of the telemonitoring group participants were still well controlled, compared to 57.1 percent of the patients who received care from their physician. The telemonitoring patients were also more confident about their ability to communicate with their healthcare team, integrate home blood pressure monitoring into their weekly routine, follow their medication regimen, and continue to control their blood pressure.
The webinar is free, but availability is only guaranteed for the first 250 registrants.
