Board of Directors proposes Ernst Bärtschi as new Chairman of Conzzeta AG

Zurich, October 3, 2013 - After 30 years in office, Jacob Schmidheiny is to step
down as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Conzzeta AG at the next General
Meeting. The Board of Directors is proposing that shareholders elect Ernst
Bärtschi as his successor.
Ernst Bärtschi (61) studied economics at the University of St. Gallen. He is an
experienced executive and leading figure in the Swiss business world. After
holding various positions at Nestlé and Schindler, he joined construction
chemicals manufacturer Sika AG, initially as CFO, then serving for seven years,
until 2012, as CEO. During this period, he played a leading role in the
company's expansion into Asia and contributed significantly to increasing its
profitability. He is a member of the board of directors of Bucher Industries AG,
a nonexecutive director of the construction materials supplier CRH plc (Ireland)
and a member of the advisory board of private equity investors CRCI (China).
Jacob Schmidheiny has been with Conzzeta AG for 40 years. He became a member of
the Board of Directors in 1977 and Chairman in 1984. From 1978 to 2001, he was
also responsible for operational management of the company as CEO. Under his
leadership, the then Zürcher Ziegeleien transformed itself from a construction
materials company into an internationally active industrial holding company with
seven business units, under the name of Conzzeta. Jacob Schmidheiny is stepping
down as Chairman on reaching the age of 70, but will continue to serve the
company as a member of the Board.
The Board of Directors of Conzzeta AG is confident that it has found a worthy
successor as Chairman in Ernst Bärtschi. He attaches great importance to
sustainable business development and has extensive experience in leading a Swiss
company with long traditions and an international orientation. The Board and
employees join in thanking Jacob Schmidheiny for his great service on behalf of
Conzzeta AG. Thanks to his resolute action and a management style that focuses
on people, the company successfully made the forward-looking transition from
local construction materials company to international industrial group.
Ernst Bärtschi's election is set for the Ordinary General Meeting on 29 April
2014.
