(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
KESKO CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 08.10.2013 AT 09.00 1(2)
Kesko scored highest in its sector in the Nordic Climate Disclosure Leadership
index rating. The index includes the best Nordic companies that have publicly
reported on their actions on climate change mitigation. Kesko is featured at the
top of the index for a third consecutive time and it improved its score (98/100)
by 10 points.
"We are proud that Kesko's long-term work for mitigating climate change is
recognised. The Nordic Climate Disclosure Leadership index provides important
information on companies' actions on climate change mitigation to different
stakeholders. The improvement of energy efficiency, which is one of the key
objectives of Kesko's responsibility programme, generates significant savings
and benefits for our business operations, says Kesko's President and CEO Matti
Halmesmäki.
Kesko is committed to saving 65 GWh of its annual energy consumption by the end
of 2016 and has already achieved approximately 70% of its target. Particularly
good results have been achieved with energy efficient building and stores'
energy solutions.
Kesko reached a record high score in the index assessment
The Nordic Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) is based on Nordic listed
companies' responses to an extensive questionnaire on greenhouse gas emissions,
emission reduction targets, and risks and opportunities associated with climate
change. High scores indicate good data management and an understanding of
climate change issues related to the company.
The minimum score for inclusion in the index has risen year after year and this
year, it stands at 91. Kesko's disclosure score 98, was the highest for public
responses in the Consumer Staples sector and Kesko's highest so far. The average
disclosure score for all of the 260 Nordic companies was 73.
The Nordic Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, comprising 27 companies, is an
essential part of CDP's Nordic 260 Climate Change Report 2013. CDP is a non-
profit organisation, which gathers information about companies' operations to
prevent climate change. The report can be downloaded from www.cdproject.net.
Emissions are reported more extensively than before
Kesko's Corporate Responsibility Report 2012 presents indirect greenhouse gas
emissions (Scope 3) more extensively than before. The emission calculation
includes outsourced transportation, primary energy, waste, business travel,
employee commuting and customers' shopping visits.
