Kesko is the first Finnish company to be applauded by UN Global Compact Office for responsibility communication

Kesko's Global Compact communication is included in Kesko'scorporate responsibility reporting for 2008. Kesko's communication onprogress, which was classified as 'Notable', can be read athttp://www.unglobalcompact.org/COP/notable_cops.html.Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan launched the Global CompactInitiative in 2000. The initiative includes ten principles foradvancing human rights, labour rights, the environment andanti-corruption in the operations of the companies and their purchasechains.By the end of June 2009, nearly 7,000 organisations throughout theworld have committed themselves to the Global Compact Initiative.Most of them - over 5,000 - are companies. In addition to Kesko,there are currently 14 Finnish business participants."Kesko is the first Finnish company whose communication on progresshas received the recognition 'Notable'. By the end of June 2009, onlyfive recognitions have been given worldwide this year, so we are veryproud of this acknowledgement to the work done," says Ulla Rehell,Kesko's Assistant Vice President, Corporate Responsibility.Kesko joined the Global Compact in spring 2007 and first reported itsprogress on the ten principles included in the initiative in May2009.
