BMO Financial Group today participated in a celebration marking the donation of a stone carving of the bank's coat of arms to the Canadian Museum of Civilization. The carving was uncovered during renovations by the Department of Public Works and Government Services at the Sir John A. Macdonald Building - BMO's former Ottawa Main Branch.
"The discovery of this carving is exciting news for all of us at BMO," said John Berryman, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc. "We have been serving residents of Ottawa since 1842, and this artefact is a very special representation of our long history in the nation's capital. We are proud to see this carving take an important place at the Canadian Museum of Civilization."
"BMO is very pleased that the Department of Public Works and Government Services has done the work to recover this important piece of BMO's history," said Yolaine Toussaint, Chief Archivist, BMO Financial Group. "We want to thank Minister Diane Finley and Museum staff for working to ensure this piece of BMO history is preserved."
