Skully(TM) Offers Hands-on Demo of First Heads-Up Display (HUD) Motorcycle Helmet With GPS Maps, and Rearview Camera Technology

(firmenpresse) - SANTA CLARA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/16/13 -- Silicon Valley-based Skully Helmets () is set to unveil the future of the helmet industry at DEMO FALL 2013 in Santa Clara, Calif. With Skully's smart helmets, riders are able to dramatically enhance their awareness with an intelligent Heads-up Display (HUD) system. On board is a full 180-degree rearview camera, turn-by-turn GPS navigation, smartphone pairing and voice control. Skully Helmets founder Marcus Weller will be demonstrating the Skully P1 at the Wearable Computing DEMO session on Thursday, October 17, starting at 11:00 a.m.

"For riders, awareness is crucial," said Marcus Weller, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO of Skully Helmets. "We designed the Skully P1 to operate as a natural extension of the senses. It sees, it hears, it feels, and, most importantly, it thinks and connects you with the rest of the world. This is just the beginning for this platform."

Dr. Sean White, Skully Helmets advisor and Technologist in Residence at Silicon Valley venture capital firm, Greylock Partners noted: "Skully's head-worn display technology will transform the way we think about wearable computing and perception."

At the DEMO Fall 2013 event, Skully Helmets will showcase the following:

Skully Synapse™. A patent-pending intelligent Heads-Up Display (HUD) system that integrates critical information such as turn-by-turn GPS navigation, sensor data and live rearview camera feed unobtrusively within the rider's line of sight. Skully's intelligent HUD system provides an unprecedented level of awareness for riders.

180-Degree Rearview Camera. Using the latest in panoramic wide-angle camera technology, Skully's rearview camera system captures the full rear-facing panorama, including complete side-to-side visibility. This ultra-wide angle view is sent to the Heads-Up Display (HUD) so riders can always see their blind spots without breaking their forward line of sight.

Skully Operating System. The Skully OS allows riders to stay connected to the world. Riders can make phone calls, ask for directions, play music, and communicate with their smartphones, all via voice control. Compatible with iPhone and Android, the Skully OS is based on a flexible Android mobile development platform. Skully has plans to release an SDK for developers later this year.
