(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/23/13 -- Twelve Canadian Armed Forces members from the 2nd Canadian Division are in Kielce, Poland, from October 22 to 30 for Exercise BAGRAM XIV, where they are helping train a Polish Task Force Headquarters (PTF HQ) for deployment to Afghanistan.

"Exercise BAGRAM XIV highlights the Canadian Armed Forces' commitment to promote international security and foster relationships with our allies," said the Hon. Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence. "The exchange of best practices and experiences benefits all participants and reinforces our excellent working relationship with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland."

Exercise BAGRAM XIV is the latest in a series of biannual International Security Assistance Force validation exercises sponsored by the Polish Land Forces and the United States Army Europe. The aim of this year's exercise is to assess the ability of the Polish Task Force Headquarters to plan, command and control operations as it prepares for its upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

"This training event provides our members with a valuable collective training opportunity in an international context," said Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse, Commander of the Canadian Army. "Participating in a mentorship and advisory role also enhances our members' readiness to deploy and support our allies."

Exercise BAGRAM XIV includes approximately 550 participants from three countries: Poland, the United States and Canada. This is the first-time that the Canadian Armed Forces is participating in a BAGRAM-series exercise.
