RoodMicrotec's "ATLAS"-Project gets new Contract
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Zwolle, 30 October 2013
RoodMicrotec confirms receiving an outsourcing contract with takeover of a
complete testcell in the context of its "Atlas" Project. This is a contract from
a Siemens AG, Drive Technologies Division company in Germany which develops its
own ASICs (application specific integrated circuit), chips for specific
applications. This Siemens AG, Drive Technologies Division company has recently
decided to outsource its activities in this area and to sell us the equipment it
used for that process. This is fully in line with the trend we have outlined
earlier that OEMs are increasingly focusing on their core activities.
Win-win
By outsourcing the development of ASICs, this Siemens AG, Drive Technologies
Division company can make significant cost savings and thus improve its
profitability. Also, the company can count on continuity and security of its IP,
because RoodMicrotec is an experienced and accredited independent service
provider.
For RoodMicrotec, this means additional sales, business expansion on an
additional tester platform and new business; also, RoodMicrotec has been chosen
amongst other testhouses as preferred supplier for the development of new ASICs.
The same production equipment can be used for this applications, creating
further upward sales potential. The production equipment will also be available
to serve other customers in the market.
The outsourcing trend is expected to continue, especially in view of the win-win
situation described above. Partly due to its infrastructure, RoodMicrotec is
very well positioned to benefit from this optimally. This is confirmed by the
fact that this Siemens AG, Drive Technologies Division company's extensive audit
selected RoodMicrotec as the best qualified candidate.
Volume
The contract will run for three years, with an initial volume of approx. EUR
400,000. The total volume is dependent on the success of the current and future
ASICs. It is clear, however, that RoodMicrotec's sales, even without this
particular order, will get strong positive momentum by using the same production
equipment for other customers' existing and future ASICs.
'We are very proud that we have secured this contract. It reconfirms that we
have the perfect portfolio for OEMs who wish to outsource their chip development
and supply chain. The fact that RoodMicrotec as an independent service provider
is not in competition with the customer's IP and can even protect it, is also
considered to be a great advantage', Philip Nijenhuis, RoodMicrotec CEO,
commented.
