Government of Canada Works With Private Sector to Invest in Breast Health
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to help Ontario women improve their health

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/30/13 -- Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament (Mississauga-Brampton South), on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, today announced funding to support the Breast Health Program, led by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Ontario Region. The Program will help women in Ontario aged 40+ make informed decisions about their breast health by increasing their understanding of breast cancer risk factors, and by encouraging the healthy behaviours that can help reduce that risk.
"Our government is committed to investing in women's health," said Parliamentary Secretary Eve Adams. "With one in nine women diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, it is critical that we provide women with the information and tools they need to make the right decisions about their health."
"As the leading Canadian breast cancer charity, we continue to invest in research, education and advocacy to reduce the incidence of breast cancer, in addition to our ongoing efforts to reduce mortality and improve quality of life," said Sandra Palmaro, CEO, CBCF-Ontario.
Specific project activities include the development of social media content and digital tools about breast cancer risk factors; distribution of health promotion resources to targeted environments (e.g. clinics); and delivery of community-based outreach activities and education.
This project is funded under the Public Health Agency of Canada's Integrated Strategy on Healthy Living and Chronic Disease, which provides a framework for the federal government to promote the health of all Canadians and reduce the impact of chronic disease in Canada.
