New Online Mentorship Resource Meets the Needs of B.C. Small Business Owners
MentorshipBC launches resource to audience of small business owners at Prince George event supported by the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training

(firmenpresse) - PRINCE GEORGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/01/13 -- Small business owners across British Columbia today welcomed the launch of , a resource dedicated to meeting the need of B.C. entrepreneurs seeking access to the many mentor programs available across the province. Designed with small business owners in mind, MentorshipBC provides a central registry of business mentor programs, and allows entrepreneurs to easily find and access programs that meet their specific needs. Honourable Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, officially launched the initiative at a reception in Prince George.
Raising awareness of mentorship is a priority for the Provincial Government that arose from consultation with 35,000 small business owners in late 2012 and early 2013. It is one of the six key actions outlined in the B.C. , announced in March 2013, which aims to make B.C. the most business-friendly jurisdiction in Canada.
According to Naomi Yamamoto, Minister of State for Tourism and Small Business, "MentorshipBC - a key deliverable under the BC Small Business Accord - helps budding entrepreneurs to connect with experienced mentors who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise and help them get their businesses off the ground and on the path to success. MentorshipBC bridges an important gap by providing access to valuable resources that will help build a stronger B.C., one small business at a time."
In addition to providing small businesses with a search tool to find appropriate mentor support, MentorshipBC promotes the benefits of working with mentors and the value of mentorship programs.
"We want B.C. small business owners to use this site to connect with individuals who have the right background and know-how to offer them advice on setting up their business and managing it profitably," says Dawn Wood, MentorshipBC Project Manager. "We also want organizations that offer mentor programs to know that they can increase access to their programs by having their information listed on the MentorshipBC website."
