(firmenpresse) - Zürich, Friday 15 July 2011 – CloudSigma AG, the public Infrastructure-as-a-Service
(IaaS) provider based in Switzerland, today announced its membership of the Open
Virtualisation Alliance (OVA). The OVA aims to further support for open source
virtualisation around KVM and foster interoperability between various cloud market
participants.

Patrick Baillie, CEO commented 'We've always been committed from inception to both
the open source software movement and interoperability and easy data portability within
the cloud. We are proud to join the Open Virtualisation Alliance and contribute to open
virtualisation platforms and computing.'

The rapid emergence of cloud computing over the last few years has spawned a
divergent field of vendors each offering their own version of IaaS. A significant concern
registered by potential cloud computing users has been vendor lock-in. Open source
software platforms enable rapid uptake of cloud computing standards as well as
transparency and visibility on security matters that is harder to achieve with proprietary,
commercial hypervisor options.

KVM: A Hypervisor with Momentum
When making the choice of hypervisor to use for the CloudSigma cloud, the company
reviewed all the major hypervisors available on the marketplace. Although relatively new
at the time, it was clear that KVM had an unrivalled developer support base.
Subsequently CloudSigma has found each iteration of KVM to be more powerful and
with significant better performance than the last.

Being part of the mainstream Linux kernel and development community, CloudSigma is
able to deploy its cloud on a wide range of hardware out of the box. This has allowed the
company to delivery performance levels unrivalled by other larger cloud vendors (see

Strong & Growing Membership
The mission of the Open Virtualization Alliance is to foster the adoption of KVM as an
open virtualization alternative, accelerate the emergence of an ecosystem of third-party
solutions around KVM, increase overall awareness and understanding of KVM, encourage
interoperability, promote best practices and highlight examples of customer successes.
Founding members of the Open Virtualization Alliance include BMC Software,
Eucalytpus Systems, HP, IBM, Intel, Red Hat, Inc. and SUSE. Since launch, the OVA has
gained significant market recognition and participation, welcoming more than 65 new
members in its first month.

"We are very pleased to welcome CloudSigma into the Open Virtualization Alliance
(OVA), " said Scott Crenshaw, vice president and general manager, Cloud Business at
Red Hat and a founding member of the Open Virtualization Alliance. "This groundswell
of support for the Open Virtualization Alliance from industry leaders and innovators shows
the overwhelming demand for KVM as the open virtualization alternative. KVM delivers
leading performance, scalability and security, making it the ideal alternative to
proprietary virtualization technologies."
