Calgary Parking Authority: Parking Pilot Extended in Edmonton

(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA and CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/06/13 -- The City of Edmonton is extending its in and around the City Hall area until January 2014. Launched as a six-month trial in June, the additional time will allow Transportation Services to assess the technology during cold weather and gather additional feedback from Edmontonians.
The parking pilot is part of a with the City of Calgary. Edmonton's machines accept coin or credit card payment. Like Calgary's ParkPlus System, customers can also pay by cellphone, text or make a payment via the iPhone app.
For its part, The City of Edmonton provided Calgary with its LED lighting technology. Edmonton is a national leader with respect to the design, implementation and use of light-emitting diode (LED) street lighting.
"This partnership is about Alberta's two largest cities sharing their successes with one another," said Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary. "It's also about providing excellent services to citizens and paving the way for future partnerships between Calgary and Edmonton."
"These technology trials are an excellent example of how collaboration serves to advance everyone's interests," said Don Iveson, Mayor of Edmonton. "We greatly appreciate their assistance in regards to this technology trial, and we hope that down the road, similar tests and exchanges will take place that will mean more efficient and effective operations for both of our cities."
Once the parking pilot ends in Edmonton, the older style of meters will be reinstalled in the area in and around Edmonton City Hall, and will remain in place until a tender process is complete and a city-wide system ready for installation late in 2014. The LED lighting pilot is ongoing while the City of Calgary determines which system will best serve the community.
