DATA MODUL with a clear improvement in earnings in the 3rd Quarter of 2013
Strong momentum in order entry continues
Munich-based DATA MODUL AG is Europe's largest independent display
technology company. DATA MODUL's leading edge display solutions, embedded
systems and Easy-Touch technologies are used globally in electronic
engineering applications and information systems requiring the highest
quality standards.
As already forecast in the half-year report, DATA MODUL's business
experienced a noticeable boost in the third quarter of 2013. Revenues
increased 5.4% to 37.1 million euros and confirmed the positive trend that
began in the second quarter of 2013. Thereby, the Systems segment made the
most significant contribution to this growth, as planned, with an increase
of 9.3% to 17.7 million euros (previous year: 16.2 million euros). The
revenues of the Displays segment were 2.1% above those of the previous year
and amounted to 19.4 million euros (previous year: 19.0 million euros). The
further advance in our internationalisation showed great success and
recorded an increase in the export quota to 39.2% in the first nine months
of 2013 (previous year: 30.0%). EBIT developed particularly well and in the
third quarter compared to the prior year and grew 4.5% to 2.3 million
euros. The results improved dramatically in comparison to the first two
quarters which were still strongly influenced by the reluctance of
customers to call their orders. The strong momentum in order entry
continued in the third quarter of 2013 with an increase of 9.7% to 40.8
million euros. As a result, the order backlog of 94.9 million euros
(previous year: 83.7 million euros) was at a new record in the Company's
history.

and a year which will be affected by upfront investments in future growth.
On the cost side, higher expenses will be incurred due to the Group's
reorganisation and a transformation of the business model towards the
higher value and stronger growing Systems business. Therefore, DATA MODUL
expects the results in 2013 to be lower than in the previous year.
Nonetheless, the uncertainty among customers which was still visible in the
first half of the year has considerably decreased since summer. We expect
this trend to continue throughout the remainder of the year. In addition,
the strong order entry in the third quarter makes us optimistic that we
have now passed the low point. Therefore, for fiscal year 2013, DATA MODUL
expects a satisfactory result overall that is in line with our
expectations.
