Curtiss-Wright Controls Adds 10 GigE Support to Dual Core i7 CHAMP-AV5 DSP Engine
Support for Critical I/O's 10 GigE XGE XMC Interface Brings 10GigE to Rugged DSP Board

(firmenpresse) - ASHBURN, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/13/11 -- Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, OpenVPX™ and CompactPCI products for the rugged deployed aerospace and defense market, has announced the addition of (10 GigE) support on its dual Intel® digital signal processing (DSP) 6U board via 's 10 Gigabit Ethernet card. Support for Critical I/O's high bandwidth network mezzanine card simplifies the integration of 10 GigE into embedded subsystems designed for demanding military signal processing applications.
"10 Gigabit Ethernet is becoming increasingly popular with our rugged deployed customers for network centric military platforms, especially for sensor interface applications where the data acquisition system is located at some distance from the processor," said Lynn Bamford, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. "Critical I/O's XGE 10GbE XMC card enables system integrators to add 10 GigE networks quickly and easily into their CHAMP AV5-based DSP subsystems."
"Critical I/O is pleased to partner with Curtiss-Wright by supporting the Critical I/O XGE 10GigE interface on their high performance, dual Core i7 DSP product," said Jack Staub, President of Critical I/O. "10 Gigabit Ethernet, is an ideal interface technology for next generation military systems because it is part of the broad-based Ethernet standard, which insures a long life and compatibility with future systems -- all at minimum life-cycle cost and also because 10 GigE offers very high performance, which is essential for connecting high performance computing systems to various sensors and other subsystems."
Critical I/O's 10 GigE XGE products provide 10GigE Ethernet connectivity to embedded systems with the ultra-high performance characteristics that are absolutely essential for data intensive real-time systems, yet still maintain 100% interoperability & compatibility with standard Ethernet infrastructures. Users can easily connect simple wide band I/O devices (A/Ds, digital receivers, and imaging devices) to standard Ethernet Networks where data can be streamed at wire speed with low latency to processors, and storage devices.
The CHAMP-AV5 multi-processing board brings the floating-point performance of the Intel® Core™ i7-610E processor to the x form factor standard. Utilizing a pair of 2.53 GHz dual-core Intel® Core™ i7-610E processors, the CHAMP-AV5 delivers performance rated up to 81 GFLOPS. With a 17GB/s (peak) DDR3 memory subsystem connected directly to the processor, the Core i7 is able to maximize the throughput of its SSE 4.2 vector processing units. The Core i7 can process larger vectors at peak rates significantly greater than was possible with previous AltiVec™-based systems. The CHAMP-AV5 is pin-compatible with Curtiss-Wright Controls' MPC7447/7448-based CHAMP-AV4, which enables performance upgrades without requiring changing the chassis, backplane, or power supplies of existing qualified systems. The CHAMP-AV5 features a high-bandwidth PCI Express® (PCIe) architecture, with on-board PCIe connections between the processors and the PMC/XMC sites. With 8GB of Flash and4GB of SDRAM, the CHAMP-AV5 is designed for applications with demanding storage, datalogging and sensor processing requirements.
