Court Martial Verdict Reached for Retired Petty Officer 2nd Class James Wilks
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/15/13 -- A Standing Court Martial has found a former Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) medical technician guilty of 25 charges in relation to incidents that took place while he was performing CAF medical examinations in London, Ontario and Thunder Bay, Ontario between 2003 and 2009.
Of the 10 sexual assault and 16 breach of trust charges against retired Petty Officer 2nd Class James Wilks, Military Judge, Lieutenant-Colonel Louis-Vincent d'Auteuil, pronounced Mr. Wilks:
Sixteen complainants testified during the trial, which took place in Gatineau, Quebec, and in London, Ontario.
The sentencing hearing is expected to begin on February 24, 2014, in Gatineau. There are no minimum sentences for these offences. The maximum sentence for sexual assault is 10 years imprisonment, and five years imprisonment for breach of trust. Only one sentence is imposed on an offender at a court martial pursuant to the National Defence Act. As Mr. Wilks was convicted of both sexual assault and breach of trust offences, he faces a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.
