Highlights PCIe as Standalone Box-to-Box Fabric Within the Rack Using Standard Copper, Optical Cabling

(firmenpresse) - SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/18/13 -- , Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), the global leader in PCI Express® (PCIe®) silicon and software connectivity solutions enabling emerging data center architectures, today announced a live demonstration and the presentation of a paper on implementing ExpressFabric® technology at this week's in Denver, Colo. Additionally, a separate demo will highlight One Stop Systems' industry-first PCIe Gen3 expansion appliance supporting 16 high-end accelerator boards enabled by PLX® PCIe switches and nVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs).

Larry Chisvin, PLX vice president of strategic initiatives, will deliver his presentation, titled , during SC13's Hardware and Architecture I Session, Tuesday, Nov. 19, 10:30 a.m. to noon, in room 501/502. The presentation will explain the value proposition of ExpressFabric, the criteria for creating a fabric, and implementation details on the building blocks that enable shared I/O, DMA and RDMA in a high speed converged fabric. The paper will also highlight estimated performance of ExpressFabric, along with hardware and software development tools that early adopters can purchase today.

PLX's ExpressFabric demonstration -- taking place during the conference's exhibition hours (booth #3626) Nov. 18-21 -- highlights rack-level consolidation and convergence possible through PCIe interconnect technology. Using PCIe as a standalone box-to-box fabric interconnect in a data center rack cabinet, the demonstration leverages clustering and I/O sharing provided by a PLX-designed PCIe-based top-of-rack switch box to connect seamlessly through PCIe to multiple 1U servers, which are then connected to the cloud via Ethernet. The demonstration highlights how ExpressFabric can eliminate expensive bridging devices within the rack -- such as adapter cards, that translate PCIe to InfiniBand, Ethernet or Fibre Channel -- yet fluidly work with these standards rack-to-rack. ExpressFabric provides a high-performance, low-latency solution, while offering significantly lower cost and power, with a reduced bill of materials. The SC13 demonstration also shows how both copper and optical cabling can be used to seamlessly and efficiently connect all appliances in the rack using PCIe.

The second demonstration in the PLX booth at SC13 will be a One Stop Systems 3U -- the industry's first PCIe Gen3 expansion appliance to support up to 16 high-end accelerator boards from a single or multiple servers. The HDCA demonstration features 23 PLX ExpressLane™ PCIe Gen3 switches and 16 , providing up to 73.3 teraflops of computational power. This demonstration showcases how PLX ExpressLane switching technology enables ultra-high-performance applications, such as managing multiple-GPU traffic, and solves complex interconnectivity challenges both within a system and as a box-to-box solution.

PLX recently announced its (OFA), whose open-source OpenFabrics Software was developed to improve the efficiency of RDMA in fabrics and which OFA will be exhibit at SC13. Running InfiniBand applications over a native PCI Express fabric without the overhead of protocol conversion bridges provides compelling benefits. Joining OFA allows PLX to participate on the InfiniBand software development platforms and contribute to the open-source RDMA eco-system.

PLX is the worldwide market leader with over 70 percent market share in PCIe switch products, today offering 18 ExpressLane . The company has many more Gen3 switches in development to enable ExpressFabric, storage and other key data center applications, and in parallel is planning for PCIe Gen4 products.

PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), based in Sunnyvale, Calif., USA, is the industry-leading global provider of semiconductor-based PCI Express connectivity solutions primarily targeting enterprise data center markets. The company develops innovative software-enriched silicon that enables product differentiation, reliable interoperability and superior performance. Visit PLX on , , , and .
