Former Yahoo! Developer Network Lead Joins Box to Drive Platform Growth

(firmenpresse) - PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/14/11 -- Box today announced new platform updates with API libraries for iOS and Android, as well as two new sets of API methods focused on collaboration and social capabilities. The company also teamed up with sponsors AT&T, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Hewlett-Packard, InMobi and Verizon to kick off the , encouraging developers to build powerful enterprise applications leveraging the Box APIs.

To support strategic platform expansion and developer relations, Box is bringing on Chris Yeh, former Head of the Yahoo! Developer Network, to serve as VP of Platform. With the company's ecosystem of integrated third-party applications already more than doubling each year, and generating over 200M API calls a month, the Box platform is well positioned to catalyze further innovation in enterprise mobility.

"Explosive mobile adoption in the enterprise is creating new demand for mobile applications focused on solving business problems," said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box. "This innovation is not going to come from legacy software vendors, which have been slow to embrace mobility and even slower to embrace true openness. At Box, we're investing aggressively in building a powerful open platform that developers can easily tap into to create killer apps for today's mobile workforce."

Today, Box helps more than six million individuals and 60,000 businesses share and manage all their content in the cloud and from mobile devices, including Android, iOS and webOS. With today's developer challenge and platform updates, Box is accelerating open platform innovation by providing the tools for developers to create apps that hook into Box's cloud storage, sharing and collaboration.

Box is releasing a Java code library for Android and updating its Objective-C library for iOS development allowing developers to:

Add Box functionality to their Android and iPhone applications more easily

Include the collaboration benefits of Box with features such as uploading, downloading, sharing, commenting, tagging, search and version history

With the new collaboration and contact API methods, users are given the ability to share and edit content with multiple people directly from their mobile device. With these new methods, developers can enable users to:

Add collaborators to a file or folder and also view which contacts have access to this content

Select a contact and see what files and folders they have in common with you and other users

Access a list of all the users with whom a given user is collaborating and view their profile for shared folders and recent updates
