U.S.English Poll Shows Overwhelming Support for English as Official Language of Wisconsin
(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwired) -- 11/20/13 -- U.S.English Chairman Mauro E. Mujica today released poll results showing overwhelming support among Wisconsin residents to declare English the official language of the state.
The Pulse Opinion Research poll found 84 percent of respondents in Wisconsin support legislation to make English the official language of the Badger State. Broken down by political party, this includes 97 percent of Republicans, 73 percent of Democrats and 83 percent of those who consider themselves to be of another political affiliation. The results show support for Official English extends to 81 percent of Wisconsin residents who speak a language other than English at home, and even 87 percent of those who are themselves immigrants.
"These poll results should serve as a call to action to the Wisconsin State Legislature," Chairman Mujica said. "Representative Andre Jacque has introduced AB 340, which would declare English the official language of Wisconsin, and our poll indicates overwhelming support for this bill. Making English the official language of Wisconsin is supported by more than three-quarters of constituents of all backgrounds, a rarity in politics. Doing so will also help the state's residents and by adding an incentive for all foreign language speakers to learn English, thus increasing their ability to achieve social and financial success. I encourage all Wisconsin lawmakers to listen to the will of their constituents and work quickly to enact English as the official language of Wisconsin."
The Pulse Opinion Research poll of 1,000 likely voters was conducted by phone on November 14, 2013. The poll has a margin of sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
