SADF: CANADIAN MPS OBSERVE THE STATE OF DEMOCRACY IN BANGLADESH NOV, 11, 2013 TO NOV. 15, 2013

(Dhaka) - Canadian Members of Parliament concluded a three-day, fact-finding
mission in Bangladesh, last Thursday, November 14th.
The two MPs, Russ Hiebert and Joe Daniel, and their support staff conducted pre-
election observation discussions. Their visit was convened by the South Asia
Democratic Forum, an organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.
The Parliamentarians met with leaders from a wide cross-section of Bangladeshi
society including religious leaders, journalists, lawyers, academics, former
government and military officials, and representatives of various civil society
organizations.
They heard about the current political situation in the nation, including
various perspectives on the role of the Anti-Corruption Commision, the
International War Crimes Tribunal, the Awami League, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and
other political parties on the country's affairs, and about Bangladeshis' hopes
for a stable political future.
A report on their findings will be released this week.
