2014 "Aces of Finance" Competition Launched
Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives Canada once again to recognize the exceptional careers of three Quebec financial executives
(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 11/21/13 -- The Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives Canada, an all-industry professional association for senior financial executives, is launching the "Aces of Finance" competition for a fourth year in 2014. The competition recognizes Quebec's chief financial officers and vice presidents of finance, whether or not they are members of Financial Executives Canada. Its purpose is to raise awareness of their role and importance in organizations by highlighting the professional achievements and community engagement of three financial executives. Candidates have until February 3, 2014 to submit their nomination form. Finalists will be announced on April 10, 2014 and the winners will be revealed at a gala event to be held on May 8, 2014 in Montreal, hosted by Rene Vezina, columnist and economic blogger for the newspaper Les affaires.
This year, the categories have been changed for the following:
The honorary chairman of this year's competition is Mr. Louis Vachon, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bank. Named as Quebec Financial Personality of the Year by Finance et investissement magazine in 2013, Mr. Vachon has been head of the National Bank since June 2007. Under his leadership, the Bank has achieved an outstanding financial performance and displayed a significant increase of its key performance indicators.
More than ever, turbulent economic times require financial leaders to be creative and develop a more strategic vision to counter this difficult environment. Thus, the skills and expertise of a good financial manager are vital in order to fully support and assist business managers through the challenges imposed by it, while improving corporate governance in the face of increased regulation. Each year, through the "Aces of Finance" competition, the Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives Canada hopes to shine a spotlight on the key role these professionals play in organizations, particularly when the economic environment is less favorable.
The "Aces of Finance" competition is a kind of business card for the profession of financial officer, promoting the exciting challenges associated with this position and the achievements that can have a positive impact on organizational performance," says Mr. Louis Marcotte, president of Financial Executives Canada, Quebec Chapter. "We believe we have been fulfilling this mission for the last four years and we look forward to receiving applications for the 2014 edition."
Winners of the "Aces of Finance" competition will be selected by a jury comprising five high-profile independent members who have distinguished themselves in the financial community and have many years of experience.
Homage Award 2014
For the third consecutive year, the Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives Canada will give the "Aces of Finance" Homage Award to a financial executive who has demonstrated excellence throughout his or her career. The 2014 recipient of this prestigious award is Mr. Francois R. Roy, Corporate Director. Mr. Roy has extensive experience as a director and manager in the public and private sectors, in non-profit organizations and in higher education institutions. In particular, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Quebecor, Avenor and Telemedia Corporation. Corporate Director since 1998, he serves on the boards of directors of the Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec, Transcontinental, the Noranda Income Fund and Capstone Infrastructure Corporation. He was also Chief Financial Officer at McGill University from 2007 to 2010. With such a stellar career, the Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives Canada is proud to pay tribute to him through the "Aces of Finance" competition. The recipient of the Homage Award was announced at the Financial Executive Forum held on November 20, before more than 130 members and guests. Mr. Roy will be officially honored at the gala evening on May 8, 2014.
