Catherine Violet Hubbard Honored by ASPCA(R) With Tommy Monahan Kid of the Year Award
Sanctuary Being Built in Memoriam for Her Kindness and Love Toward Animals

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 11/21/13 -- The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation today proudly accepts the ASPCA® Tommy Monahan Kid of the Year Award, presented to six-year-old Catherine Hubbard in memoriam to honor her legacy of kindness to animals. This award celebrates the way in which Catherine shared her tremendous love and concern for animals with those around her.
"This award is a reflection of the compassion, grace and acceptance Catherine taught us all," said Jenny Hubbard, who accepted the award on Catherine's behalf at the annual ASPCA Humane Awards Luncheon. "We are so grateful to the ASPCA for this very special honor."
Catherine, a first grader lost in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, had a passion for animals and insects alike and often created special "homes" for the animals she encountered each day. Possessing strength and kindness beyond her years, at the end of each day Catherine would send her special friends off with a kiss and whispered request of, "Tell your friends I am kind," in the hope that they would return.
To carry on Catherine's legacy of providing homes for animals in need, the Foundation is working with the Animal Center in Newtown to build the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary. The Sanctuary will provide a loving, nurturing environment for all animals in need of a home, featuring a dog and cat adoption area, a farm animal rescue, and a wildlife rehabilitation center. Visitors can also participate in humane education programs through the learning center, spend time surrounded by beautiful butterflies in the butterfly garden, and tour a gallery featuring Catherine's artwork.
"Our family is passionate about making Catherine's dream of creating a place where all animals feel safe and loved into a reality," Hubbard noted. "We have no doubt that when we open the doors to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, Catherine will think it is the most beautiful place on earth."

The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation, Inc. is a recognized 501 (c) 3 organization. The foundation was created for the exclusive purpose of supporting charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes that honor the memory of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a first grader lost in the Sandy Hook Tragedy. Inspired by her pure and kind spirit, and her love for all creatures the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation will embody her defining virtues:
Compassion:
We treasure all living things and believe that all creatures, great and small, deserve to live free from harm in their natural environment. We will approach all creatures with a sense of kindness because we believe that is what builds a better world.
Acceptance:
We believe in the innate beauty and grace of animals, nature and people. We accept all creatures where they are at and will help them achieve what they aspire to become.
Determination:
We will always challenge ourselves to make sure we are doing the best job we can possibly do. Our first goal is to make Catherine's dream of creating a safe haven for all animals by building and supporting The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.
Presented each year during the ASPCA Annual Humane Awards Luncheon, the Tommy Monahan Kid of the Year Award is given to a person aged 14 or younger who has helped make the world a kinder place for animals. The award was established in memory of Tommy Monahan, a 9-year-old Staten Island boy who perished in a 2007 house fire trying to save his pet.
