Save the Children Canada Commends the Canadian Government for Its Additional Commitment of $650 Million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 12/02/13 -- Save the Children welcomes the news of a 20 per cent increase for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria by Prime Minister Harper and the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and Minister for La Francophonie.

"Save the Children along with civil society partners has been active in engaging with the Canadian government on its $650 million commitment to further support the Global Fund and the eradication of AIDS, TB, and Malaria. These diseases are the cause of an estimated 4 million deaths each year. This commitment will help our partners on the ground provide prevention, treatment, and care programs - changing the face of these diseases," says Patricia Erb, President & CEO, Save the Children Canada.

"We thank the Government of Canada for this additional commitment. The Global Fund has already saved an estimated 8.7 million lives and will be able to provide further health care and support for the world's poorest countries. Save the Children is dedicated to dramatically reducing the number of under 5 child deaths globally and believe this support will help us achieve this goal."
