Dr. Christopher Chung Has Implemented the Keller Funnel Into His Plastic Surgery Practice to Reduce Risk and Minimize Scarring for Silicone Breast Implant Procedures

(firmenpresse) - CORONA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 12/10/13 -- In an effort to improve results for his breast augmentation patients, Christopher Chung, MD now uses the Keller Funnel™ as an important tool when performing the surgery with silicone implants. He explains that the ™ can offer many benefits to his patients who elect to have a breast enhancement procedure. "I am pleased to offer my patients an advancement to this procedure that allows for a potentially smaller incision, less time in the operating room, and less trauma to the implant during surgery," he says. He adds that the funnel uses a "no touch" technique, which allows him to place the breast implants with minimal risk of contamination prior to placement.

The funnel, which is packaged as a sterile, single-use device, allows Dr. Chung to insert the patient's silicone directly from the funnel into the surgical site. Traditionally, surgeons insert breast implants by hand. In the process, the implant can touch the patient's skin as the doctor places it into the breast pocket through the incision. According to Dr. Chung, although every measure is taken to create a sterile environment for surgery, sometimes residual bacteria from the patient's skin can come in contact with the implant when the surgery is performed by hand. With the Keller Funnel™, he says these risks can be reduced.

Dr. Chung says the risk of the patient experiencing capsular contracture after surgery can potentially be reduced when the funnel is used for implant placement. Capsular contracture is a complication that can happen after surgery. The complication occurs when scar tissue forms around the implant, causing a hardened feel to the breast. With a reduced risk of implant contamination, Dr. Chung believes that capsular contracture is less likely to occur. Additionally, he explains that the Keller Funnel™ offers the potential for less scarring at the incision site, because he is often able to create a smaller incision during surgery when using the funnel to place the implant. Dr. Chung says the surgery is also expedited because of the funnel's ease of use, meaning that the surgery can frequently be completed in less time than before. He notes that overall, using the Keller Funnel™ during breast augmentation surgery can provide his patients with a better surgical experience, as well as potentially improved results and recovery.
