(Grambach, 04.10.2010) The Austrian company BDI - BioEnergy International
AG has been commissioned by Biodiesel Aragón S.L. in Altorricon (Spain) to
upgrade a BioDiesel plant. The commission is worth about EUR 4.6 million.
Upgrading the plant by installing the proven BDI Multi-Feedstock technology
will enable such raw materials as Used Cooking Oil and Animal Fats to be
deployed in the production of high-quality biodiesel that meets the
requirements of the European standard EN 14214. By carrying out this
project, the customer is following the trend towards the processing of by-
and waste products in BioDiesel manufacturing, so that competition with
food production is avoided, while the economic and sustainability
performance of the BioDiesel plant is improved.
The BioDiesel plant came into operation in 2008, has focussed up to now on
the processing of Vegetable Oils and has a capacity of 100,000 tonnes of
BioDiesel per year. The operator has decided to upgrade the plant by
installing BDI's patented and proven Multi-Feedstock technology, in order
to process raw materials that are available locally - like Used Cooking Oil
- into high-quality BioDiesel in future and to increase the efficiency of
the plant. This is in line with changes in the market situation and the
trend towards the generation of higher added value with by- and waste
products. By using the BDI technology, the plant will already fulfil the EU
sustainability and CO2 reduction criteria for the 'next' generation of
biofuels.
Wilhelm Hammer, CEO of BDI - BioEnergy International AG, thinks that this
development in particular holds tremendous potential for BDI BioDiesel
plants: 'The commission from Biodiesel Aragón is confirmation of our
philosophy. With the innovative BDI Multi-Feedstock technology, we enable
our customers to make more flexible and economic use of raw materials that
are available locally, while helping to reduce environmental impact and
make sensible use of waste materials. The result is that the waste produced
by the rich is processed and not the food needed by the poor.'
The commission placed with BDI covers all the stages in the different
processes required for distillation, steel construction and auxiliary
equipment - from engineering to installation and start-up - and guarantees
complete integration in the existing plant. The distillation technology is
being produced in co-operation with the German BDI subsidiary UIC GmbH, one
of the world' leading short-path distillation companies.
Completion of the turnkey plant is scheduled for September 2011, with the
project taking fewer than 12 months from when the contract takes effect.
