Tweaking the supply chain – in all the right places
ZOW 2014: Industry symposium looks at the measures available in supply chain management
(firmenpresse) - [Bad Salzuflen, January 20, 2014] At the upcoming ZOW – the international supplier show for the furniture and interior design industries – to be held in Bad Salzuflen February 10-13, 2014, industry experts will highlight opportunities for suppliers, manufacturers, logistics specialists and retailers to optimize their value added chains collectively.
With sales figures falling at the same time that raw material prices and unit labor costs are rising, the pressure on the furniture industry is increasing. Although Germany’s furniture manufacturers are committed to “Made in Germany” outstanding quality, lasting service and innovative design, quality manufacturers are facing ever greater competition – particularly in the domestic market – with Asian suppliers of non-branded mass-produced goods. Since Germany is and remains the biggest sales market, with around 71 percent of total industry sales (2012), suppliers, manufacturers, logistics specialists and retailers need to optimize their value added structures and processes to remain competitive at home.
At a symposium entitled “Using Supply Chain Management as a Competitive Tool” to be held February 11 from 10.00 through 1.00 in the Symposium Room in Hall 22-2, experts will provide advice on the general importance of cost-effective value added chains and on specific points where tweaks can be made to best effect. For example, where software and hardware applications are introduced or upgraded to promote the recording, standardization and sharing of data along the supply chain. “As a process-led show, ZOW provides the optimum setting for advice on relevant measures,” says Horst Rudolph, Managing Director at event organizer Clarion Events Germany. “Not only do decision-makers in the industry make a point of meeting up here – they also make decisions that impact on the industry here.” The event is a joint initiative between abaco Informationssysteme GmbH, Clarion Events Germany, Dr. Wieselhuber & Partner and the North Rhine-Westphalia Wood and Furniture Industry Trade Associations.
As the first industry show of the year, ZOW will once again direct the focus of decision-makers toward technological and design trends so that appropriate expertise can be incorporated into new collections.
