According to a national survey that was conducted by the Brewers Association, home brew supply shops saw a 29-percent increase in overall revenue in 2012. The same survey also found that nearly half of all home brew supply shops were opened less than three years ago.
Although its debatable why the hobby has gained so much momentum at this point in time, the basic reasons people love home brewing are pretty clear. For some, making their own is simply an inexpensive way to keep their fridge stocked with delicious craft beer. Other people find that experimenting with different techniques and recipes is a fun way to nourish their inner chemist. For others, the camaraderie they gain with other home brewers is the best part of the process.
With more new home brewers diving into the ancient art of beer making, beer brewing clubs are starting to pop up everywhere. The social clubs are not only a fun way to share new batches with friends, they are a place where home brewers can learn from each other’s mistakes and triumphs. While tasting each other's latest creations, fellow home brewers can pick each other’s brains and take notes.
