ELMOS: Low-energy step-down converter family
E522.01/02/03/04: Lowest input current for standby-current sensitive
applications
Dortmund: ELMOS introduces a new step-down converter family with the
extremely low input current of 12µA in closed-loop operation. The product
family includes 4 types with fixed output voltages of 5V or 3.3V and 500 mA
or 350 mA maximum load currents.
One outstanding feature of these new components is called adaptive power
control (APC), adjusting the converter's own operating current to the load
current. By means of APC and the sophisticated PFM control circuit, high
degrees of efficiency are achieved even under the lowest load currents.
This facilitates highly efficient voltage supply in the smallest space. The
control circuit does not require compensation and responds extraordinarily
fast to changes in load current and input voltage. Adjustable current
limiting provides for the precise tuning of theinductor to the calculated
load current and thus adds to the further limitation of installation space.
The chip family at a glance:
Product Vout IL(max)
E522.01 5.0V 500mA
E522.02 3.3V 500mA
E522.03 5.0V 350mA
E522.04 3.3V 350mA
The chip family can be used for automotive and industrial applications,
e.g. for the supply of controllers in the areas gateway, body computer,
power sunroof modules, and SRAM voltage supply, as well as for general
functions in the supply of logic controllers. It is also suited for the
automotive and industrial use of sensors and microcontrollers.
The high integration scale and the high operating frequency of up to 1.3
MHz minimize the number and size of external components required. The
converters' output voltages are stable even without load current, and there
is no regulating oscillation. The components operate up to a duty cycle of
100% withvery low voltage drop. Due to these advantages, the chips qualify
as an alternative to LDO regulators, even in the low power range. The
feature set is completed by jump-start strength and elaborate safety
features (integrated overtemperature and overvoltage protection). The
component comes in a QFN20L4 or a TSSOP16 package.
Samples and evaluation boards are available for all chips.
