(Graz, 18. November 2010) Impressive success: BDI - BioEnergy International
AG is the winner of the Energy Globe Styria Award 2010 for its trailblazing
focus on algae research and the company's significant findings in this
area. BDI confirms its position as a pioneer in this field at the world's
biggest chemical engineering conference in the USA too.

BDI has just been announced as the winner of the Energy Globe Styria Award
2010. The biofuels specialist - based in Styria but with worldwide
operations - won the competition in the 'Air' category. The Energy Globe
Styria Award is made annually by the state energy association and the
Styrian environmental energy network and is the regional stage of the
international Energy Globe Award. The award goes to projects that help to
protect the four basic elements of life and focus on sustainability.

BDI was given the award in recognition of its advanced know-how in the
field of exhaust gas algae research. What is involved here is an
understanding of how CO2 can be used to cultivate microalgae - the carbon
dioxide produced by the industry that emits greenhouse gases. 'This focus
is impressive evidence that the industry which produces these gases needs
environmentally sound new solutions too', says Wilhelm Hammer, CEO of BDI,
who draws attention to the fact 'that the waste of one industry is the raw
material for another one'.

Algae have been one of the emphases in BDI's research operations for some
time now. There is global agreement that they have tremendous potential for
use in the production of biofuels in future. This was made very clear at
the world's biggest chemical engineering conference - the '2010 AlChE
Annual Meeting' with more than 4,000 participants that just ended in Salt

Lake City, Utah, USA - too. Heike Frühwirth, a senior algae research
scientist and chemical engineer at BDI, made a well-received presentation
to an audience of several hundred there. All the promising new technologies
that are being developed and debated were represented at the conference.

Certain algae are ideal for the obtainment of biofuel. Some kinds consist
of up to 50 per cent fat. Algae produce ten times as much biomass as
terrestrial plants. This means that the possible fuel yield is considerably
higher than with other raw materials. The industry is aware of the immense
potential, but the infrastructure needed for BioDiesel production is
expensive so that it is not economically viable yet. While algae are being
produced on a broad basis, there is a lack of know-how about how the oil
can be obtained from the raw material and then how BioDiesel can be
produced from it. BDI is a number of steps ahead in this field too. The
company already has complex know-how in these particularly challenging
areas - based on the multi-feedstock process which has been developed
in-house and patented. This process has made it possible to use difficult
raw materials in BioDiesel production that are not suitable for human
consumption.

'Algae oils are extremely difficult to obtain and process', stresses BDI
CEO Wilhelm Hammer, 'we have developed an internationally acknowledged
position in this field over the past few years'. BDI holds such a strong
know-how lead that an international mineral oil company has arranged to
take advantage of it: BDI has been commissioned to carry out a project that
aims to evaluate the potential of the use of algae oil. This co-operation
confirms the pioneering role played by the Styrian company.

About BDI - BioEnergy International AG

BDI - BioEnergy International AG is market and technology leader in the
construction of customised BioDiesel plants using the Multi-Feedstock
process the company has developed itself, which can manufacture BioDiesel
from different raw materials, such as Vegetable Oils, Used Cooking Oils and
Animal Fats.

BDI has specialised in the development of technologies that make optimum
use of resources in the industrial processing of by- and waste products
ever since it was established in 1996 and owns an extensive patent
portfolio that has resulted from its in-house research and development
activities. As a leading constructor of special plants, BDI also supplies
efficient plant concepts in the 'Waste to BioFuels' field that are designed
to obtain high-quality Omega-3 Fatty Acids and to produce BioGas from
industrial and municipal waste in co-operation and synergy with the Enbasys
GmbH, being part of the BDI group. The range of services includes public
authority, basic and detailed engineering, installation and start-up as
well as after-sales support.

BDI - BioEnergy International AG and the companies it consolidates
currently have more than 130 employees. The shares in BDI - BioEnergy
International AG (ISIN AT0000A02177) are listed in the Prime
