Not satisfied with 4 athletes in the Top 10 ranking in 2013, the LTTL wants to be the star of the second edition of Teide Xtreme, which will take place on 4 October at the beach of Playa de Las Vistas, Arona.
Last year Frederik Van Lierde participated, as the reigning Ironman World Champion of Hawaii, in the team competition and his opinion was that the Teide Xtreme is "the most spectacular triathlon"!
ENEMY IN THE HOUSE
The current Teide Xtreme champion Pieterjan Penne has just announced, in an interview on the club website, that one of his main goals for this season is to defend his title in the south of Tenerife.
But he won´t have it easy!
He will have to compete with eight athletes from his own team. Especially in the men competition the field of participants will be very strong:
There's Dennis Devriendt winner of the triathlon at Lisbon of 2010 and 2013 and Pieter Heemeryck, Belgian vice-champion in 2013 and this year 7th at the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon on the short distance behind the Brownlee brothers. In the women competition seem to be Mieke Van Thuyne the favorite, given their experience in the Ironman series where she has established itself in the Top 50.
INTERNATIONAL CHARACTER
The Teide Xtreme is one of the most spectacular sports events of the island and has the goal of establishing itself as an internationally renowned sporting event.
1.9 km swimming in front of the Playa de Las Vistas , a spectacular 96 km bike course which take the athletes from sea level to 2200m in Teide National Park and the 21 km run along the promenade of the communities Adeje and Arona ; the participants will be faced with a challenge that couldn´t survive everyone.
Last year participated triathletes from 11 different countries. For the Teide Xtreme 2014 have already registered athletes from 8 different countries and it seems that the number may be exceeded to last year.
