New York City starts with NYC-Domains its own Domain

(PresseBox) - There are four periods for the registration of NYC-Domains:
1.Sunrise: 5.May 2014-20.June 2014
2.City Government Affiliated Phase
3.Landrush Period: 4. August 2014- 3. October 2014
4.General Availability since 8. October 2014
It is necessary for every applicant of NYC-Domains to own an address in New York City. ICANN accredited Registrar Secura GmbH provides automatically and for free a trustee from New York, which is the official owner of the NYC-domains.
Michael Bloomberg,the former mayor of New York City explains: "Having our own unique, top-level domain ? .nyc ? puts New York City at the forefront of the digital landscape and creates new opportunities for our small businesses.? Michael Bloomberg further asserts in a
statement, that the New Yorker " will now be able to identify themselves as connected to New York City, one of the world?s strongest and most prestigious brands."
The city of New York describes the advantages of .nyc:
"These potential benefits include, but are not limited to:
- a source of New York City-specific information and online e-commerce for the millions of
people who visit the City;
- business opportunities, leisure activities, or services for City residents;
-short and memorable Internet addresses and the increased ability to identify authentic New York City resources, businesses
and information."
New York City continues:
"The City also views the .nyc gTLD as a means to:
-enhance City resident, business and visitor access to government
services;
-enable community communications and collaboration;
-help local businesses to market and thrive;
- promote New York City overall."
ICANN accredited Registrar Secura aleady offers the pre-registration of
NYC-domains.
