Frankfurt/Main / Hamburg, February 2011 - euromicron has developed an
intelligent analysis and control system based on video technology for
EDEKA's 'Store of the Future', an internal demonstration store, in order to
support point-of-sale and supply chain management, staff rostering,
customer advice and payment processes, as well as security monitoring. The
monitoring and alerting technology integrated in the overall concept offers
advantages for both EDEKA's business administrators and customers, such as
shorter waiting times at checkouts, minimization of inventories and
optimization of personnel planning and the sales areas required.
The analysis, control and alerting system has been developed for the 'Store
of the Future' by euromicron and the partners Axis and Aimetis. Business
administrators and managers at the EDEKA Group, which has around 12,000
stores and is one of Germany's leading food retailers, can find out more
about the new solutions and technologies in the internal 'Store of the
Future'.
'The project's objective is to optimize retail processes and so enhance
customer satisfaction and efficiency,' explains Frank Neffe, Head of System
Technology at euromicron systems GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of
euromicron AG. 'Our intelligent, IP-based technology offers not only store
operators, but also employees and customers many benefits for even more
relaxed, secure and faster shopping,' adds Neffe.
The 'EDEKA Store of the Future' offers its visitors a lot of information
and solutions that help EDEKA stores leverage their full potential. Sales,
short-term profitability, stock or cost of sales analyses are available in
real time. The checkout process can be optimized by separating article
scanning and payment (e.g. by a self-checkout or tunnel scanner). A
queue-busting solution can make checking-out even faster: The contents of
the shopping basket are scanned by means of mobile devices. Customers can
then pay on their own and leave the checkout zone through secured barriers.
Mobile technologies for payment and couponing round off the numerous
technical innovations.
Thomas Hoffmann from euromicron AG's Executive Board states: 'Leveraging
new technologies to make life and work more convenient, more secure and
easier is a true market of the future. Many of these possibilities are
demonstrated in the 'Store of the Future.''

redesigned stand at CeBIT 2011 in Hanover. 'We intend to showcase
