Tantalus Rare Earths AG: Drilling Progress / Drilling Results

Drilling Progress
The Tantalus Rare Earths Project (the 'Tantalus Project') is an early stage
exploration project located in north-western Madagascar and comprises rare
earth-tantalum-niobium-zirconium-hafnium enriched dykes, sills and clays
associated with the emplacement of the Ampasibitika and Tsarabariabe alkali
intrusions. Through its wholly owned Malagasy subsidiary, TRE AG holds a
300 km²exploration licence across the Ampasindava Peninsula, which
comprises the Tantalus Project and is valid until 17 April 2013 upon which
the first of two, three year extensions can be applied for without any
requirement for a reduction in size.
Previous exploration, most notably the airborne geophysical surveys, has
defined three main mineralised zones that are targeted as separate
prospects by the Company. These have been identified as radiometric
anomalous areas as well as from surface mapping and sampling. The three
prospects are:
1. Target 1 - Ampasibitika - approximately 6 km long this target is located
on the north eastern coastal regions of the Ampasibitika intrusion;
drilling to date has concentrated here,
2. Target 2 - Ambaliha - around 3 km long this target has three
sub-parallel anomalous areas to the north west of Ampasibitika; and
3. Target 3 - Befitina - two sub-parallel, approximately 3 km long zones of
minor dykes and potentially mineralised clays to the west and south west of
the Ampasibitika intrusion.
The Company is also considering the centre of the Ampasibitika intrusion as
a possible fourth target, where parent magmas may also be enriched in one
or other of the target elements.
A number of lesser studied areas exist as secondary prospects which include
anomalous areas within the Isalo sediments to the southeast of the
Ampasibitika intrusion as well as an airborne radiometric anomaly to the
north of the Tsarabariabe intrusion.
Drilling commenced on 5 July 2010.
The core drilling is being undertaken by E Global Drilling Corp ('E
Global'). In early December 2010, E Global had one Versadrill Kmb.4km drill
and one Energold EGD II drill in operation. A third Energold rig was being
prepared in the camp and is operational since February 2011 .
The first phase (Phase I) of the drilling programme comprises 80 boreholes
totalling 6,070 m across this target, covering a strike length of 4.8 km
around the eastern and north-eastern flanks of the Ampasibitika Intrusion.
The programme consists of 200-400 m spaced fences of generally 3-6
boreholes perpendicular to the observed strike of the mineralisation.
Drilling commenced on the southern fences, with the drilling of 400 m
fences and proceeding up through to the northern extent of the radiometric
anomaly. The first series of drill holes were designed to assess whether
mineralisation was located below the surface radiometric anomalies and to
assess the overall strike length of the target and the width of the zone
where mineralised dykes occur.
As at 15 December 2010, when the TRE AG drilling programme finished for
2010, a total of 4,030 metres had been drilled made up of 55 holes within
the Tantalus Concession. Assay grades are now available for the first 33
holes.
Results from the recently produced core that are currently available and
from surface samples, suggest average multiple intersections of around four
metres width averaging 0.3% TREO, 0.5% ZrSiO4, 0.1% Nb2O5, 0.01% Ta2O5 and
0.01% HfO2 with a relatively high HREO content of 21% of TREO.
Concentrations of uranium and thorium are low which reduces the risk of
future environmental issues that have been known to hinder the economic
development of similar projects. It is noteworthy to mention that the
higher grade parts of the REE mineralisation are also mineralised with
silver (up to 15 g/t) and gallium (up to 80 ppm). All samples were
submitted to Alschemex, Johannesburg for sample preparation; assays were
done by Alschemex, Vancouver using lithium borate fusion prior to acid
digestion and ICPMS analysis for 38 elements. TRE AG applies a strict QA/QC
programme adding 5 - 8 % of check samples (doubles, blanks and standards)
to all sample batches.
The Company has commenced some initial petrolographical-mineralogical
studies and metallurgical tests on the mineralisation as well as leaching
tests on the Befitina REE bearing clays and the results of these tests are
awaited for the coming months.
The drilling programme recommenced on 18 January 2010 and as at 2 March
2011 a further 2,008 metres had been drilled making a total of 6,038.0
metres of drilling.
The Group aims to further explore the concession area by continuing work on
the 40,000 metre drilling programme currently underway, in order to define
the mineralised structures towards a JORC compliant mineral resource
estimate and to support a detailed feasibility study towards mine
development and production. As at 2 March 2011 33,962 metres remain to be
drilled. It is expected that this drilling programme will take
approximately 18 months from now to complete.
The Company is currently awaiting more results and will make a further
announcement once these have been received and analysed, which is likely to
be within the next 4-6 weeks.Über Tantalus Rare Earths AG
