KONE to modernize elevators and escalators at Los Angeles International Airport
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - KONE Corporation, press release, July 8, 2009KONE was awarded a contract to provide a mix of new installations andmodernization to all elevators and escalators at the Los AngelesInternational Airport (LAX) in the United States of America. Thecontract covers maintenance, new installation, equipment repairs andupgrades in each of the eight terminals at LAX and is estimated to beworth more than EUR 16 million. The order was booked in the secondquarter of 2009.The project represents a significant investment by the Los AngelesBoard of Airport Commissioners to not only ensure that LAX is incompliance with all current health, safety and environmentalstandards, but to also provide dependable, and quality in-terminaltransportation options for passengers and airport employees. Anestimated 59 million people travel through LAX every year, making itone of the busiest airports in the United States. Therefore, it'scritical that the elevators, escalators and autowalks work smoothlyand efficiently to get passengers to their desired destination. Theproject is the first of four phases planned at LAX."Besides serving the United States' second largest city, LAX is thewestern gateway for many foreign visitors.
