(firmenpresse) - SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 08/14/14 -- Local Scottsdale entrepreneur has focused much of his attention towards philanthropic goals. Most recently he has donated to the Scottsdale organization IFESH -- the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help. Founded in 1981, IFESH seeks to address the problems of illiteracy and poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. The work of IFESH encompasses the efforts of the Eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals, in particular the eradication of poverty and hunger, combating HIV/AIDS, universal education, promoting gender equality and maternal health.
"I'm proud of the work IFESH does and their commitment to social betterment," said Jason Hope. "Literacy is the foundation that all social change is built upon, and I'm a firm believer in the power of self-help." Hope joined the prestigious IFESH Ambassador Program last year, to help better support the organization and its goals.
Founder of IFESH, Reverend Leon H. Sullivan was a former board member of General Motors for over two decades and authored the "Global Sullivan Principles" -- a foundational system of self-help and improvement. He was honored in 1991 with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George H.W. Bush and in the same year received the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from President Bill Clinton.
IFESH operates in twelve Sub-Saharan African countries, working in the areas of education, health, community development, and conflict resolution. The group is committed to the self-help principles outlined by Rev. Sullivan, under the belief that if emerging democracies in Africa are to be sustained, that the country's citizen must be fully literate in order to make informed choices. Education and training are the building blocks of economic, social and political reform.
