(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/16/14 -- Join Canadians this October and pledge your sobriety with Sober October.

It's a healthy lifestyle choice that benefits you and a good cause - 100 per cent of the pledges you get from staying alcohol-free for October will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

"The event starts in October, but already we're getting people involved," says Aaron Gillespie, co-founder of Sober October Canada. "Participants can visit to create their own unique donation pages, network with other users or even donate $20 for a 'Hall Pass' to get a night off from sobriety."

Sober October is pretty simple. Take a break from drinking for one month just before the holiday party season begins in November and December. It's the only charity that asks you NOT to do something to do something, you know? And since it's a challenge, Sober October encourages friends and family to be sober together.

"It's a concept built on friendly competition and healthy living," said event volunteer Gus Klemos. "We have seen the overwhelming support for events like this overseas, and we are proud to be a part of it as it arrives for the first time in Canada."
