LSF Celebrates Head Start Awareness Month With Florida Events Throughout October
Head Start Program Celebrates 50 Years of Impact on Students Nationwide
(firmenpresse) - TAMPA, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 09/29/14 -- LSF, a non-profit organization based in Tampa, and LSF Children and Head Start Services in Florida announce today a month-long celebration of National Head Start Awareness Month in October. Head Start programs in Pinellas, Palm Beach, Hillsborough and Duval counties will host center-specific events to educate the community on the impact of the programs.
Each of the four Florida counties celebrating this month will participate in a public event, and current students and leadership will be involved in various outreach initiatives. Each public ceremony will feature a signature event, including appearances by community officials, like St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, a tree planting, performances by children and more.

President Ronald Regan declared October Head Start Awareness month in 1982, and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the program. Since the program opened in 1965, 31 million children have benefitted from Head Start's comprehensive services, with students moving on to become mayors, members of Congress, athletes, foundation presidents and Grammy-winning musicians.
"We're thrilled to be raising awareness about Head Start in Florida," said Louis Finney, Executive Vice President for Children and Head Start Services, LSF. "October's events will be a chance for us to celebrate the thousands of children throughout the state who are impacted by this program each year."
LSF has been a Head Start Grantee for over 30 years, offering education, family services, disability, health and nutritional services to children and families. LSF Children and Head Start Services currently serves 6,000 children and families in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Duval, Belle Glade and Palm Beach counties in Florida.
