Catheter Connections Fails Additional Disinfection Test on Second Common Bacteria, Announces Ivera Medical
(firmenpresse) - SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/30/14 -- Ivera Medical announced that an independent lab, in a second test, has found that the dark blue IV-Pole Strips and DualCap products for male luer connectors made by Catheter Connections failed to disinfect all critical surfaces of male luer connectors when used as directed on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Last week, the results were published from an independent lab that found these same products failed to disinfect against P. aeruginosa, a gram-negative bacterium, and this second test was performed to understand the consistency of the problem. In this case, Catheter Connections' products failed to reach a 4-log reduction disinfection level on five of the twelve samples tested. "In all four tests performed by an independent lab, there has been a consistent problem with the inability of the Catheter Connections product to properly disinfect the male luer," said Bob Rogers, CEO of Ivera Medical. In the same test, the Curos Tips product reached a 4-log reduction on all 12 samples tested, just as it has done on the three prior tests. "Disinfecting the male luer is a basic, yet critical requirement of these products and our product's disinfection performance is exceptional. The reality is, hospital products like male luers can be exposed to many pathogens and it is important that testing be done in a way that mirrors what happens in the clinical setting," said Mr. Rogers.
